Today our President helped launch a pilot program where first responders will be able to access mental health treatment pretty much immediately after a traumatic event or in the case that they have cumulative stress and this is before it is signed off on workcover.
There is a 28 day period between the submission of work cover forms and the decision on whether or not the claim is accepted.
This 28 day period can lead to the consolidation of symptoms so for a first responder so just like a physical injury, mental injuries will be treated straight away.
This is a great step forward for first responders and other government agencies that are subjected to trauma and will eventually become part of the work cover process.
